Ernakulam rural police has initiated a security system named "Project Thousand Eyes" by setting up an Integrated Video Surveillance System using CCTV Network across the District. The project is being planned and implemented under the leadership of Distric Police Chief K Karthik IPS. A separate command and control room is monitoring the system round the clock at District Head Quarters. Specially trained personnel are detailed for this duty. The sub divisional offices and Police station wise monitoring are also implemented.

    This project is implemented in Ernakulam rural District as a part of smart Policing in view of preventing crimes/ detection of crimes, tool of investigation etc with the help of modern technologies. As a part of this project, high resolution CCTV Cameras were installed at important junctions, school & college premises etc and linked with central monitoring control room/ sub divisional offices and Police stations. This project is implemented with the co-operation of Non- Governmental Organizations, Public and Private Limited Companies, Merchants Associations, Residence Associations etc.

The objectives of this Project:

To create a deterrent that will stop criminals from carrying out the crimes. Helps in preventing crime and detecting criminals at right time and Identification of Crime Spots.

Public Order Management. The cameras act as eyes from the sky in the field, helps in Better Traffic Management, tracking Dharnas and Processions, Keep surveillance at important Junctions, Bus/Auto Stands, Railway Stations especially at peak hours, places frequented by women and children etc.

VIP Security and Access Control, Real Time Coordination with Other Departments, End to End incident Management.

Useful in identifying strangers moving around suspiciously at night.

Besides being an excellent measure for Crime prevention, CCTV footage act as an excellent source of evidence for Crime Detection and also to keep a watch on Criminals and Antisocial Gangs.

Installation of CCTV cameras in various public places will help to ensure Public Safety, Preventing Crimes and Sexual Assaults. Helps to provide a sense of security to public especially Women, Children and Elderly persons there by promoting Ernakulam Rural District safe for public.

Several vital installations will be mapped round-the-clock through surveillance cameras.

Helps in Number Plate Recognition of Vehicles, Facial Recognition etc.
