Women cell acts as a center to offer succor to women in distress. Counselling is provided to victims of abuse. It also monitors investigation of cases where women are victims. Abandoned and destitute women are taken to protective custody and handed over to homes meant for them. There is a 24 hours helpline in this wing.

The Women Cell of Ernakulam Rural District started functioning on 01.08.1996 vide G.O (Rt) No.2504/94/Home dt.19.11.94 as per PHQ Circular 11/96 dt.09.07.1996 vide letter No. S(a) 30477/96 dated 09.07.96 . The Women cell is functioning Under the direct supervision of DYSP District Crime Branch. The women cell is functioning in the new building No. xx/356(1) in east road ,Aluva from 22.10.14 onwards.

The women cell is functioning exclusively to get the women&rsquos grievances redressed and also to attend the petitions/complaints received from women with allegations of against women and other complaints

Jurisdiction of Women cell

This Women Cell Unit has jurisdiction through out the Ernakulam Police District.

Activities of women cell

Women reception Desk

Women Reception Desk started at Women Cell, Ernakulam Rural . It is functioning in a good manner by giving legal assistance and counseling to the petitioner as and when it is necessary.

Advisory Board

Advisory board meeting is conducted quarterly at Women cell, Ernakulam Rural, headed by DySP, District Crime Branch Ernakulam Rural . Members of womens council, elected representatives, councillors and psychologists etc participate in this Advisory Board Meetings.

Monitoring Atrocities Against Women

Whenever a women atrocity case is registered in a police station, Inspector of Women Cell, Ernakulam Rural will monitor the case, where women is a victim . Inspector of Women Cell records the statement of women and children in women victim cases.

Tribal Hostel Visit

Women Cell Inspector visit the tribal hostels regularly as per the instruction of District Police Chief and conducts awareness classes.

Redressal committee

A redressal committee has been formed at Women cell, Ernakulam Rural for the protection of women employees from sexual harassment at work places. Committee has been conducted monthly, headed by Inspector of Police, Women Cell, Ernakulam Rural. Representatives of District Police Office staff and police personnels of women cell, Ernakulam are the memmers in this committe. A report in this regard has been submitted to District police Chief Ernakulam.

Vanitha Help Line, Ernakulam Rural started functioning under the control of DYSP, District Crime Branch and Inspector of Police,Women Cell Ernakulam Rural.
